Daisy Oppon - Community Engagement and Wellbeing
I am an innovative entrepreneur, dedicated to working with and supporting organisations to empower our community. With over 20 years of experience in community engagement, I have been a visionary leader in creating positive experiences by addressing local needs and providing timely and effective solutions.
I am incredibly passionate about building strong community ties, so families are always at the forefront of my work. Young Beacons CIC was formed to provide services to support families, especially children and young people in Coventry’s BME community.
Young Beacons aims to equip, uplift, and inspire children of African and Caribbean descent to reach their full potential. Since 2017, we have been providing a range of educational support services, as well as cultural and wellbeing activities. These have included cultural dance lessons, intergenerational discussions, and, of course, Black History Month activities as part of our other services.
Myself and Young Beacons also work closely with others in the community. During COVID-19, we began partnerships with other community organisations to support families by providing emergency food, advice, and assistance. I also serve as a trustee for a local community organisation that I have witnessed grow from strength-to-strength.
